Agricultural Stewardship & Best Management Practices

Welcome to the RRCA's Agricultural Stewardship home page.

Agricultural Stewardship Best Management Practices (BMPs) can play a significant role in improving farmland sustainability by improving soil health, reducing erosion, and retaining valuable nutrients. This not only provides on-farm benefits such as inceased average yields, but also improves the health of the local watershed.

Please explore the pages in the menu to learn more about various BMPs and available resources and funding opportunities, tour some on-farm project sites, and meet several farmers who have gone ahead with implementing various BMP projects.

Do you have an Environmental Farm Plan (EFP)?

A new 5th edition EFP became available to Ontario farmers on July 14, 2025. The updated edition reflects current regulatory requirements and latest science on best management practices, includes links to new tools and new areas of focus like biodiversity and farming in a changing climate.
