2025 Tree Giveaway in North Glengarry.

As part of their continued commitment to building a healthier and more resilient eastern Ontario, South Nation Conservation (SNC) and the Raisin Region Conservation Authority (RRCA) are once again offering free native or naturalized trees to residents this spring. In partnership with municipalities across the region, the two conservation authorities will distribute a combined 10,000 trees and shrubs in 2026.

“Every tree planted is an investment to protect the future of our watersheds,” says John Mesman, SNC’s Managing Director, Property, Conservation Lands, and Community Outreach. “These annual giveaways help residents build climate resilience and strengthen ecosystems right in their own backyards, while also connecting them with broader forest stewardship programs and tree planting incentives offered through their local conservation authority.”

This year marks the 27th annual Tree Giveaway for RRCA and the 8th for SNC, as well as the 7th consecutive year the two conservation authorities have partnered to distribute trees across their shared municipalities. 

“A healthy regional tree cover can grow our region’s resilience to flooding, drought, and erosion, while boosting biodiversity and habitat,” says Lisa Van De Ligt, RRCA’s Team Lead, Communications and Stewardship. “We’re grateful for the continued support from our municipalities and sponsors, Enbridge and Ontario Power Generation, and encourage everyone to consider signing up for a free tree bundle, while quantities last.” 

Residents interested in receiving free trees can secure their seedling bundles through their conservation authority’s website or social media channels. Availability is limited, and reservations will be confirmed by email. Pick-up dates are scheduled for late April and early May. Tree species can vary depending on municipality and availability.

In 2026, the RRCA is preparing to add 50,000 trees to the local landscape, while SNC plans to plant 90,000 trees across its watershed. For decades, both conservation authorities have led large-scale tree planting initiatives in eastern Ontario, adding millions of trees to support long-term watershed health.
