RRCA's Claudia Munafo displays one of the limited edition geocoins being awarded to the first 200 families who complete the Raisin Region GeoAdventure.
The Raisin Region Conservation Authority (RRCA) is challenging explorers of all ages to learn about local environmentally significant sites this summer by joining the Raisin Region GeoAdventure. This geocaching treasure hunt is made up of 20 caches hidden throughout RRCA’s eastern Ontario jurisdiction and other nearby areas.
“Geocaching is a world-wide outdoor activity where participants use smartphones or other GPS devices to find secret containers hidden by other geocachers,” says Claudia Munafo, RRCA’s Public Information Coordinator. “The Raisin Region GeoAdventure is a fun and exciting way for participants to discover and learn about natural features and environmental projects in our region.”
Cache locations include watershed management infrastructure, public greenspaces, an edible forest, and habitat restoration projects. All 20 caches contain unique QR codes which, when scanned, lead to hidden digital content with special information about each location. Some of the cache pages contain fragments of a GeoAdventure code which, when combined, unlock the final cache page.
The first 200 families to unlock the final cache are being awarded a limited edition Geocoin. Each coin is engraved with a unique tracking number and can either be kept as a trophy or placed inside a cache to potentially travel around the globe as other geocachers move the coin from cache to cache. The coin’s travels can be tracked online at geocaching.com.
All code-containing caches are accessible in the Cornwall area by walking, cycling, or using Cornwall Transit. Cache sites were selected in consultation with municipal, community, and Indigenous partners.
“Since its launch in 2021, the Raisin Region GeoAdventure has accumulated over 2,200 cache finds,” says Munafo. “It’s been great to see families exploring and learning together outdoors while hunting for caches.”

Printed maps are also available at the RRCA office at 18045 County Road 2 in Cornwall and at other select locations.
